Volunteering with OTR Community Housing
History of Volunteerism
The movement of affordable housing in Over-the-Rhine is rooted in volunteerism. In the beginning, abandoned buildings were rehabbed primarily by volunteers. Over the years volunteers have assisted in renovating apartments, researching vital information for grants, cleaning lots, executing general maintenance jobs, and beautifying our neighborhood. Volunteers have had a direct impact on sustaining affordable housing in Over the Rhine and achieving the mission of OTR Community Housing.
What is "Sweat Equity" ?
Volunteers do tasks that the organization would have to pay an employee to do. The money saved from not having to pay an employee is used to subsidize the cost of our housing. We are able to keep rents low because of volunteers.
